Abdomen and body contouring

Frequently asked questions about liposuction, abdominoplasty and body contouring

Understand the differences between localised fat, skin laxity, excess skin, diastasis, muscle definition, retraction technologies and fat grafting.

Patients with similar complaints may need different treatments.

An enlarged abdomen, for example, can be related to subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, diastasis, excess skin, laxity, posture, body structure or a combination of these factors.

In the same way, not every case of laxity needs skin removal, and not every localised fat deposit should be treated with an extensive surgery.

The consultation is where the predominant problem is identified and the intensity of treatment compatible with the anatomy, goals and safety is defined.

01

The same complaint can have different treatments

“My belly is big.” It may be related to:

  • subcutaneous fat;
  • visceral fat;
  • diastasis;
  • skin laxity;
  • excess skin;
  • posture.

“My skin is lax”

It may require:

  • observation;
  • skin-retraction technology;
  • liposuction combined with another procedure;
  • skin removal.

“I want more definition”

It may depend on:

  • fat reduction;
  • musculature;
  • skin quality;
  • fat grafting;
  • the desired degree of definition.

“I want to improve my buttocks”

It may involve:

  • the waist;
  • the back;
  • the hips;
  • gluteal fat grafting;
  • a buttock lift;
  • treatment of the gluteal frame.

02

Do not choose a surgery based on its name alone

The consultation allows fat, skin, the abdominal wall, musculature, proportions and goals to be assessed to define which procedure truly matches your case.

Questions about timelines for returning to activities are covered in the patient journey and patient safety pages.

The best surgery is not the most well-known, the most extensive, or the one that promises the greatest transformation. It is the one that treats the correct problem with an intensity compatible with each patient's anatomy and safety.
